Lipinski is Dead Wrong on Health Care

By voting “no” on the health care bill that passed the US House last night (3/21/10), Dan Lipinski has put his  personal religious values before the well-being of millions of Americans who just might be able get health care coverage when before they could not.

It seems Lipinski was the only Illinois Democrat to vote “no” on the bill because (even with an executive order to the contrary) it contained insufficient restrictions on a woman’s right to an abortion.

Don’t get me wrong.   I am not a big fan of the bill.

  • It maintains and even strengthens the power relations that are to blame for skyrocketing health care costs.
  • There is no viable public option.
  • I advocate single payer, or expanded Medicare for all and will work to make that come about.

However, in the US Congress one has to swallow bitter pills in the name of compromise and this health care bill is the only game in town.

By voting “no,” Lipinski solidifies his record as a social conservative.    He has also voted against stem cell research; against ENDA — the bill that prohibited employment discrimination of LGBT persons —  and for the Federal suppression of medical marijuana use.

Lipinski, however, continues to vote  in favor of numerous war appropriations bills.  I think it is fair to characterize Dan Lipinski as “Pro Life before Birth only.”

Vote Green Party!  What the 3rd Congressional District needs is someone who will work to improve the new health care bill, to work for jobs right here, to create sustainable communities and to bring our troops home.   I urge you to join my campaign and dump Dan Lipinski this coming November.

How can I spread the word about your candidacy? I hope that people in the 3rd know there is an alternative to the 2 conservatives running in our district come November…

Reporters keep referring to the 3rd congressional district as “conservative” and I wonder if that is indeed true. I personally am not. I know that there are others like me as well. I think there are many in the district that need affordable health care, and that are for the principles of the Democratic Party. Is there any data to support that the 3rd District is ready to elect a more moderate candidate such as you? And that with the will of a moderate and hopefully majority group in the 3rd Distinct, we can through the bum Lipinski out!!

    Dear Laurel,

After all you have done to support progressive efforts around the country, I hope you get all the support you need as you dive yet more deeply into the fray at home. It is encouraging to know that a smart and compssionate person like you can overcome the lure of cynicism to stand up for what’s right, for no other reason than your dedication to people and principle.

    To victory!

Too often Green Party (or others) are written off as “fringe” but clearly you are closer to Democratic Party principles than Lipinski–and as a lifelong Democrat I never have and never will vote for Daddy’s Little Congressman.

What can we do to get the message out and pull you out of “the fringe?” And will Lipinski consider a debate or community forum with you (or–more likely–will you challenge him to such a venue?)

    You got my vote!

    • Thanks, Arnie. I intend to be an active candidate and welcome the prospect of a debate with Dan Lipinski.

I am with you. I live in Palatine, but that is close enough to hit the streets for you and go door to door.

Enough is enough, besides Shimkus, Lipinski is the biggest embarrassment and disappoint possible for Illinois in congress. I called his office and said as much.

You have a new campaign worker.

Your leading in the Daily Kos right now. I think you should start a donation page.
